Normally, restaurants serve foreign dishes. Restaurants, though they do serve local dishes, serve a variety of foreign or continental dishes.

Also, restaurants serve many varieties of dishes than a chop bar. Chop bars normally focus on a few local dishes, say three, four, five, etc. But they do not serve more varieties than restaurants.

At first, I do not know about today, chop bars were operated by people who were home trained to be good at preparing local dishes. Whereas restaurants were operated, normally, by school trained cooks.

How would you enjoy the food when the one who prepared it got burnt by accident while preparing it? This proverb is similar to this situation. Milk comes from cattle, goats, or sheep. These animals are catered for by the shepherd. The welfare of the shepherd may have an impact on the satisfaction derived from these animals.

If the shepherd comes home in peace: meaning if the shepherd is well, having not suffered any harm, you will consume the milk without a heart full of sorrow.

This wisdom should be employed by leadership at all levels. The president, the government officials, etc. can enjoy their privileges well when the taxpayer, who funds the system, is well off. As leaders – government, management, CEOs, etc., enjoy their privileges, they should see to the welfare of the people on the ground working for them, by so doing they can enjoy their privileges without a guilty conscience, regret, or the disapproval of the people.

I stand to be corrected about the meaning of this proverb, but for now, this is how I understand it.

This proverb has a lot to do with past ideologies. Gone were the days when carrying a stick was one of the characteristics of old age. And, normally, the aged were regarded as wise.

Speak softly and carry a big: People who speak softly are regarded as wise, nice, peaceful, and peacemakers. Speaking softly, coupled with holding a big still, makes you earn a great deal of respect and favor in the sight of the people for they highly regard you.

You will go far: You will go far because you will be respected by both young and old, you would be considered for positions, your council would often be sought concerning important matters and, generally, trouble would be far from your doorstep – for why would anyone want to trouble a wise peace lover?

I think even today, such a strategy works, except for the carrying of big sticks. Normally, you reap what you sow. It is a virtuous thing to speak softly to people. If you treat people kindly or softly, they will treat you the same way in return. And if you treat people harshly, they will treat you the same way too. Rude people piss off everyone.

It all comes down to our social life; the way we relate to others and react to issues. Boastful, rude, and loud utterances when dealing with people only repels friendship, favor, and acceptance. Let try as much as possible to treat one another tenderly, with kind words and gentle body language.

Love is not a person we can see or touch. I think the love used in the proverb refers to the thing or person whom we love. In other words, it refers to the object of our love or the object of our affection.

When you love someone, it is almost natural that you would treat the person softly and tenderly, and would not treat the person rudely. Being tender toward someone is like being patient, kind, sympathetic, harmless, etc. toward the person.

This proverb means or suggests that there is not limit in life. No matter how intelligent or wise you are, you still have to learn more to be more intelligent. No matter how rich you are, you can work even harder to earn more money and acquire more possession.

No matter how intelligent you are at school, you should not be overtaken by complacency; rather, learn even harder to improve on your performance and remain the best. When you relax, other will kick your ass, and you would lose your position.

The big economies such as USA, China, Japan, Germany, etc., are never complacent; hence, they have not stopped growing. Rather, they are ever growing, bringing new inventions, ideas, institutions, machines, policies, etc., to ensure they grow even more.

I faced a similar problem. My android phone’s hotspot stopped working. And I think this is what caused it. I use my android phone to share internet with my PC via hotspot. And while the phone’s hotspot is on, I put it on charge, lest it would go off before I know.

I did this almost every day for about a year – my phone never rested; it was always on charge whiles the hotspot is on. Then I began to experience this problem of my phone’s hotspot not working.  I think something got burnt or destroyed in it while it was always on charge every time it is on hotspot.

Perhaps, you are experiencing this because you have done something similar to what I did to my phone.

Then little by little, it grows into a tree with very long broad green leaves that could, sometimes, be used as umbrellas when it is raining.

The proverb means that not everything can be achieved at a go. Certain things are achieved little by little. Some rich and powerful multination companies and organizations we see today grew little by little into what they are today.

You can begin your multinational organization or company now with very little funds at a very small place in a very small building. Someday, through hard work and providing good quality service, it would grow into something, great and prosperous, you could not imagine.

Hardly do you see body painting in urban Africa. The culture is endemic to rural and remote Africa. In urban areas, people wear body painting during festive moments and fun times.

In rural Africa and remote places, people do wear body paint as they go about their daily activities.  The Himba women have red skin because they always smear their bodies with red paint made from mixing animal fat and red clay. They live with body paint all the time.

The Maasai and Wodaabe are tribes also known to paint their bodies, especially, their faces.
