Why didn’t Africa join Ethiopia to fight the Italian when they invaded?

In 1935, the Italians invaded Ethiopia intending to cease control of it. I was expecting the rest of Africa to join one of her own, Ethiopia, to fight back and repel the Italian invasion. But that did not happen. Though Haile Selassie led a resistance, it was not enough to stop the Italians. The Italians succeeded and took control of Ethiopia and Haile Selassie was forced into exile in May 1936. Why did the rest of Africa hold back? Why didn’t the rest of Africa sit back and look on, doing nothing?

In the year 1935, almost all of Africa was under colonialism under Britain, Spain, France, Portugal, etc. How would they muster an army to the defense of Ethiopia? I learned from a documentary I watched that the Italian invasion of Ethiopia was consented to by all these European colonialists. So they turned a blind eye when Italy invaded Ethiopia.

You know what? Ethiopia, at that time, was the only African country left standing uncolonized. Hence, these European colonizers and colonialists backed one of their own, Italy, to invade Ethiopia and subject them also to colonialism like the rest of Africa.

The story ended well for Ethiopia. About six years after the Italians invaded and seized control of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie mustered an army of Ethiopian exiles in Sudan, headed to war with the Italian enemies, and rescued his country from their hands. What a victory!
