Mount Kilimanjaro is a huge mountain in Tanzania, Africa. It is Africa’s tallest mountain at about 5,895 meters above sea level and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, which means it is not part of a mountain range. In 1889, German geographer Hans Meyer and Austrian mountaineer Ludwig Purtscheller became the first people on record to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. Since then, Kilimanjaro has become a popular hiking and climbing spot for locals and tourists. Because mountaineering gear and experience are not needed to reach the peak, tens of thousands of climbers ascend the mountain each year.

I would like to give a try to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. But first, I would like to know a few things — what does it take to climb Mt Kilimanjaro? What are the challenges involved? What would make me give up on the exercise? What do I need to look out for? Generally, what is the experience like when climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

If anyone has been there before or has done it before, please, share your experience with us. Thanks in advance.

          Kilimanjaro National Park

The mountain and its six surrounding forests were named Kilimanjaro National Park in 1973.
