Many Africans know nothing or little about Lamu Island. It is scarcely seen on television. Lamu or Lamu Island is a port city and island which can be found a little distance off the shore of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. It is in Kenya and part of Kenya which is in East Africa. Lamu was founded in the 1100s. Lamu is one of the oldest and best-preserved remaining settlements of the Swahili culture in East Africa. The buildings were put up with coral stone and mangrove timber. The town has simple buildings enriched by features such as inner courtyards, verandas, and elaborately carved wooden doors.

The island has continually been inhabited for 700 years and continues to be an important place in eastern Africa. In ancient times, people from various countries and regions migrated to the island. Traders and sailors from China, the Arabian Peninsula, India, and South-East Asia traveled across the Indian Ocean to East Africa to come to the island of Lamu. Lamu became prosperous through trade. The Arab traders built a port on the island of Lamu to facilitate trade in the 1300s.

The diverse mixture of sailors and traders with the native people of Lamu island created identifiable social classes on the island. The different social classes are as follows: indigenous people (Wenyeji), Africans (Waafrika), foreigners (Wageni), and Arabs (Waarabu). Each social class speaks a different dialect of the Swahili language.

Because the roads on the island are small and meandering, the use of cars by the general public is banned. The residents are to walk or make do with donkeys to get to wherever they are going. The island’s weather is generally warm and the temperature ranges from about 23 and 33 °C. Today, Lamu is a beautiful town and an important tourist site in East Africa.

Across Africa and other parts of the world, the thirst for money and the quest for quick prosperity have set many people on the part of evil. And the presence of spiritualists and ritualists has aggravated the matter to a high degree.

Money, prosperity, riches, etc. is earned from hard work. However, lazy hands forsake hard work and look for an alternative means of getting rich – getting rich quickly. This is where the blood money or ritual money comes in.

Ritual money or blood money is about exchanging life, normally human life, for money. The main culprits of this hideous act are spiritualists and any wicket money-thirty person out there. The ritual money is an age-old practice and has claimed an untold number of lives.

Anybody can be a victim – where victim means the life that will be sacrificed in the rituals for the money. But normally, the weak and innocent such as women and children are often the victims. Among the victims, children turn out to be the most victims.

Since the wicked do not experience a happy ending, it always turns out that the culprits of ritual money, eventually, become the last victims of their own wicked acts; they are haunted, restless, sleepless, and finally die a miserable death.

A man is a man irrespective of his height. Height does not necessarily determine a person’s age. A man is mature.

                Bravo.

I have been thinking of what you said that it would have been nice if there were tigers in Africa. Having tigers in addition to the other big cats would have enriched our ecology alright but it would have also increased the competition for prey. More herbivores would be needed to feed the carnivores.

Thanks for the clarification. I have always thought of leopards as being stronger than hyenas, just that a few videos I watched nearly changed my mind.

In most communities in Africa, these are the domestic animals we see:

                    • sheep
                    • cat
                    • dog
                    • pig
                    • duck
                    • chicken
                    • turkey
                    • goat
                    • pigeon
                    • donkey
                    • camel
                    • cow
                    • horse
                    • dove

Camel, horses, and donkeys are domestic animals, especially in North Africa. For those of us who live in the forest zones or the green belts of the African continent, we do not quite see these animals as domestic animals. But they are popular household animals in the Savanna and the Sahel zones of the continent.

                      More on the reptiles:

                      • Giant Plated Lizard
                      • Chameleon
                      • Agama lizard

I’m still of the view that hyenas have an upper hand. Hyenas are just as ferocious as the big cats. And from most videos I have watched they boss over leopards all the time – steal their prey and, sometimes, chase the leopard off.

                                          General Posting Guidelines

                                          1. Use the search function first before posting a question!

There is a good chance that a question or a topic you are trying to start is in existence on the forums. Hence before posting a topic or asking a question, use the forum’s search feature first to see if there are already some good threads on that topic or question.

                                          2. Be descriptive and don’t use titles

Please post a descriptive topic name! Give a short summary of your problem in the subject. Here are examples of post or question titles you should not post: Help me,

Hello,  Very urgent, I have a question.

Generally, ANYTHING similar to those is unacceptable. Just give your post or question a good and descriptive title. Here is a good example of a way to start a topic and post a question:

                                          1. “How much does it cost to spend the night in a 5-star hotel in Lagos.”
